'I know I'm not a young man'
Biden delivered something resembling a presidential speech after the disaster of the debate. Some people do better with an audience.
I know I’m not a young man, to state the obvious. I don’t walk as easy as I used to. I don’t speak as smoothly as I used to. I don’t debate as well as I used to. But I know what I do know: I know how to tell the truth. I know right from wrong. And I know how to do this job. I know how to get things done. And I know, like millions of Americans know, when you get knocked down you get back up.
He did a lot better, as he was bound to do. I think speaking in the highest of high pressure situations into a void is a very tough ask — like playing professional sport in the empty stadiums of the pandemic. The damage, however, might have been done. Although let’s not forget his teflon opponent recovered from ‘grab them by the pussy’ with three weeks to go, not four months.
