NEW PODCAST EPISODE #55 — Andrew Moran's eulogy for his father
Andrew Moran is a baritone with Opera Australia. At the end of last year, he lost his father, Lawrence Moran, and delivered a lovely eulogy at his funeral.
Andrew Moran and I have bonded in recent years over a mutual love of speeches and Australia’s national football teams. Last year, he had to deliver a difficult speech himself, when his father Lawrie died. I read it on the morning of the funeral, and thought it was a beautiful example of a short, heartfelt speech. It grabbed a single idea ‘things I did and didn’t learn from father’ and applied it to excellent effect.
Andrew has been a professional singer for his whole adult life, and part of Opera Australia in Sydney since 2006. He’s now a Senior Principal Artist there, and I interviewed him during his stay in Melbourne as part of the cast of Tosca.
The episode has a lovely musical heart to it — Andrew’s father Lawrie was a keen amateur singer himself, and the man who most encouraged Andrew’s talent. I also encouraged Andrew to break out a few bars, whenever I could, which was a treat for me, and the rest of the people on Level 5 of the Oaks Hotel in Melbourne!
The podcast is mostly a labour of love. You can support it by upgrading below, or becoming a Patreon subscriber. Positive reviews on Apple Podcasts help too, as does sharing an ep with a friend.
I mention
in the episode, and the most recent post, which was about my own annual adventures in singing!
