NEW PODCAST EPISODE #59 — Dana Rubin, founder of Speaking While Female
Dana calls me a kindred spirit, and that's a nice way of looking at it. We're both speech collectors! Dana collects speeches by women for her Speaking While Female speech bank.
I spoke to Dana all the way back in March for Women’s History Month, but it’s taken until now for me to publish the episode. It was a terrific chat, and the delays were related to Melbourne International Comedy Festival, then Ange & The Boss film release (now streaming on DocPlay), then the loss of my Mum. You’ll note that my voices for the ep were recorded in Hungary, back in April!
Dana lives in New York State, and her speeches collection has been her hobby, passion and mark on the world over the last few years. Before that, she was a speechwriter, communications training specialist and a judge in the Cicero Speechwriting Awards (which I’ve entered a couple of times).
She’s also the editor of a Speaking While Female book anthology, Speaking While Female: 75 Extraordinary Speeches by American Women. One of the speeches in that anthology is also the ‘speech of the week’ for the purposes of this episode, Oprah’s 2018 ‘Time Up’ speech at the Gold Globes.
It’s a great episode, and I really enjoyed comparing notes with somebody who is doing something very like Speakola, but with an all-female bent. Thanks Dana!
Best wishes
Tony
