The Inspiring Top 5 — recent British poll
One of our speech spotters in the UK, Richard Cohen, spotted this poll that nudged its way into the national media there.
The poll question, I think, was ‘vote for the most powerful speech of all time’, but to be perfectly honest, it was tricky in the Daily Mail article to find much heft on how this content came to be, who conducted the survey, how many people voted, or what the question was.
It’s not impossible that the whole thing was dreamed into existence by a put upon Daily Mail journo who was told he had 45 minutes to create a page 53! Go!
But all five speeches are classics, and it’s interesting a British audience would vote an American speech at #1, and a South African speech at #3. They’re all a part of the Speakola speech library, and we’ve had podcast episodes that touch on three of them.
